Bishop Olson was the first U.S. Bishop to publicly condemn the Cardinal McCarrick sex abuse scandal in July 2018. Olson called on the church to “strongly” consider whether McCarrick should be laicized. He also demanded that those who covered up the abuses be held accountable.
