Bishop McManus was given the Ruth Pakulak Award in 2013 by a crisis pregnancy center in Worcester. The award is the group’s most prestigious honor. The center said McManus has been a “strong supporter and advocate” for them since they opened and that he blessed the center when it first opened. Upholds Church teaching on education-
Bishop McManus condemned a professor at Holy Cross college who suggested Jesus was a “drag king” with “queer desires.” In a statement issued March 30, 2018, McManus said he was deeply troubled by the “false and perverse” arguments put forth by the professor. McManus also said his writing was “seriously flawed.” The professor’s views “have no place in the biblical scholarship of a professor who teaches at a Catholic college and who, as such, should be supportive of the college’s Catholic identity and mission,” he added. Academic freedom “cannot provide cover for blatantly unorthodox teaching.” (Diocese of Worcester)
